Where is Emma Jane?

Posted on 13:18 by retino

(In which I will offer an explanation as to my unexplained absence from the blogging world in general for the past week and a half.)

  Hello, my dears!
Unfortunately, our computer up and died (that is to say, it suffered a very serious bout of illness due to various causes) several days ago, and so that is why I have been 'absent' from the blogosphere this past week and a half. Thanks to Miracle Max, it is up and running again, (I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that that was a joke; it was not Miracle Max), although I was quite disappointed that I was not able to wish y'all a very happy Easter and post something special on the subject. But oh well, inclement circumstances prevented it. I hope you all did have a very happy and meaningful Easter! I know I did, and strangely, it has been quite refreshing to have a week without the computer, although, I confess, I am glad to have it back again. So here is what I have been doing lately:

  - Reading- or should I say, devouring- regency romance novels by Julie Klassen. I think I have finally come to the conclusion that I do like Julie Klassen and her books, although I don't always care for her characters. But I keep reading her novels, so that certainly says something! Here are the ones I've read so far:

The Tutor's Daughter

The Maid of Fairbourne Hall

The Girl in the Gatehouse
I enjoyed The Tutor's Daughter most, but the other two are very good as well. I haven't quite finished The Girl in the Gatehouse yet, but at the rate I'm going, it should be soon! These may not be the best books I've ever read, and they are a bit....dare I say, sappy, but in all I think they are delightful regency tales that I would heartily recommend. I especially enjoy the historical and literary quotes the author puts at the beginning of each chapter, because in case you haven't already guessed or I haven't made it clear enough (imagine that!), I love quotes. In short, these novels are harmless amusement!

- Re-watching the Horatio Hornblower series with my sister for the, say, seventh or eighth time, (I know, I know. It could be said that we are somewhat....obsessed, maybe?), and still it's as good as ever. Sigh.

*Swoon*

It's almost too much, people.

Needless to say, Hornblower has been a favourite in this house for quite some time now. We watch it every year around Easter; I guess it's just tradition. ("Tradition, tradition!") Seeing the characters again each year is like seeing old friends again! And each time I fall more desperately in love with Horatio. He is beyond a doubt my absolute favourite literary hero. EVER. There's Horatio, and then there's John-Boy Walton, although he's not technically literary, so I suppose he doesn't count, but still. Yes sir, that's how it goes.

And then of course, there's Archie Kennedy.....

And Mr. Bush....

Suffice to say, I'm in love. And so is Sadie. An EXCELLENT series, with incredible actors, gorgeous scenery, and beautiful music. If you've never seen it, do, and as soon as possible, for it is simply thrilling in the extreme.

- Last Friday, my sisters and I and several of our cousins ventured to our aunt and uncle's house in Pennsylvania, where we then put on a little show for the senior citizens group at their church. We did something of the same sort last year and it was so much fun we wanted to do it again, and so my aunt, who is very adept with arranging things, arranged it all and we had a splendid time. Last year I danced two numbers, and since everyone seemed to like the diversion from the normal piano playing and singing, this year I performed the third variation from Pas de Quatre, the dance my ballet class is performing at our spring recital. Aside from there being only about ten feet across and about five in width in the space I was to dance, it turned out quite well, I think. We then spent the night at our aunt and uncle's house. We had planned on watching Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows (which, I must point out, is not my usual fare, thank you very much), but Sadie and I were so tuckered out that we just went to bed while everyone else watched the movie into the wee hours of the night. Well, I suppose maybe it wasn't that late, but certainly too late for me. Anyhow, I'm told the movie was very good, but in truth I am not too disappointed that I missed it. Give me Hornblower any day over Sherlock Holmes, I say!

- Writing letters to my cousin Rebecca.

-Playing the piano for an exorbitant amount of time each day and desperately wishing for some more music to come my way. I love to play movie soundtracks, but as it is I am beginning to tire of Titanic and Pride and Prejudice and The Phantom of the Opera. Not that I'm complaining or anything, because those are all very fine scores, I just....play them too much, I suppose. I wish I had the Jane Eyre piano music, but sadly, I cannot find it anywhere, and even if I could, I have not a half-pence to my name and am indebted to my mother, to boot. Woe is me.

So there you have it. I have been busy, but not overly so, which is just the way I prefer to keep it. I admit that I was rather hoping to find, perhaps, well, you know....maybe another follower (besides my dear sister) when I returned to my blog, but alas, I am not to be obliged with the honor. Yet, that is. No pressure, my dears! But if you do feel so compelled as to oblige and, you know- join my blog- well, that might just about send me to the moon. Just saying. :)

I remain,

  Very Truly Yours,

           Emma Jane
