Ohhhhh I love this dress!!!! I'm kind of obsessed with hoopskirts at the present. :-P I adore the Civil War era and the fashions (as well as the hairstyles) were simply gorgeous. Most of Scarlett's dresses are quite exquisite and this is one of the simpler ones. I love the style and the color and the smart little collar, and of course that gloriously full skirt!! : )
I just recently watched Gone With the Wind for the first time, and I was completely swept away by it. I absolutely loved it. I won't go into much detail here about it, because I am working on a review of it that should be coming soon, but suffice to say that it's amazing. I am quite thoroughly and completely enamored with it at present. :-)
#9 Jane Austen's gold ball gown from Becoming Jane (2007)
One of the (only) things I love about Becoming Jane are its costumes. They're so beautiful! Jane's dresses are simply gorgeousness. Some of the dresses aren't entirely historically accurate (a few of the characters seem to be stuck back in the Georgian era), but I love all of Jane's dresses. They're mostly very simple and pretty and practical (and very fitting for the Regency period. :-P)
#8 Molly Gibson's green flowered dress from Wives and Daughters (1999)
I love Molly Gibson's wardrobe! She's so adorable! :-) All her dresses are very pretty and this one might not necessarily be my favorite, but I wanted to put one on this list so I just decided on this one. Normally I'm not a huge fan of the early Victorian fashions (some of the dresses are a bit much with the huge sleeves and all and the hairstyles are just plain weird), but Molly's dresses are all very lovely, and sensible too. I can see myself wearing them! : )
#7 Scarlett O'Hara's white and green picnic dress from Gone With the Wind (1939)
This is another favorite of Scarlett's dresses. She wears this dress near the beginning of the movie when she's still young, so it's more frilly and youthful-looking than most of her other dresses in the movie. I love the style, especially the frilly cap sleeves and the big green sash around the waist. And that hat....well, I adore it. :-)Here's a back view of the skirt |
#6 Emma Woodhouse's brown dress from Emma (2009)
Emma's dresses are some of my very favorites in period dramas (right after Downton Abbey :-)). There's not a single one of her dresses I don't love, they're all just so darling! Here are my two favorites.
#5 Emma Woodhouse's white and orange flowered dress from Emma (2009)
#4 Marianne Dashwood's peach dress from Sense and Sensibility (1995)
All of the costumes in this movie are so delightful! I love how Marianne's dresses are all so youthful and feminine and pretty. My favorite is this peach-colored gown that she wears to dinner at Sir John and his mother's house.
#3 Jane Austen's green and brown dress from Becoming Jane (2007)
Another gorgeous dress from Becoming Jane! I've always adored this dress, and for a while it was my all-time favorite dress ever. Jane wears a lot of darker colors, mostly blue and red, but this is her only green dress. I love the slightly unusual pattern and the brown fichu at the neckline.
#2 Jane Austen's pink flowered dress from Becoming Jane (2007)
I really love Jane's wardrobe. :-)
#1 Amy Dorrit's wine-colored dress from Little Dorrit (2008)
I love all of Amy Dorrit's dress, but this is my favorite. Her dresses are very feminine and pretty and refreshingly simply (and modest!) compared to Fanny's and Mrs. Merdle's. Also, most all of her dresses are some shade or other of purple, which is one of my favorite colors.
Dear Amy and Arthur!! : ) |
