I've been tagged!

Posted on 14:33 by retino
Hello, my dears!
My sweet sister Sadie Ann has been such a dear as to tag me, and I am quite thrilled as I have never done a tag before. This is extremely un-official and spur of the moment, but I think it shall be fun. I hope you enjoy!

#1 What is your favourite time period?

Hmm, let's see......there are things I love about them all! I really have a great interest in the War Between the States and the American Revolution, and they are probably my favourite eras to learn about, but I also think it would be so delightful to live in England during the glittering Regency. Also the turn of the century (late 1800s and early 1900s ) would be very exciting, because of all the new developments like electricity that sort of thing, plus the fashions were so beautiful......so I really don't think I could pick a favourite! Definitely one of those four, though. The 1930s and the Great Depression have always interested me....but then again, it was a depression, which isn't fun. I guess in short I would pick the general period between the Civil War and the start of the 19th century.

#2 What is your favourite Charles Dickens story?

Definitely Nicholas Nickleby. That was actually the first Dickens story (not counting A Christmas Carol...because everyone knows that!) that I was ever introduced to, and it has remained my favourite ever since. The 2002 movie is one of my very favourites, and I've also read (most of) the book. I also really love Bleak House and Great Expectations, although I've never read the novels, and Little Dorrit is up there too, but there's just something about the story and the characters in Nicholas Nickleby that make it my absolute favourite. It's actually one of my favourite stories ever, and Nicholas is one of my most loved heroes.

#3 What is your favourite Jane Austen story?

Sense and Sensibility, undoubtedly, although Emma does come in close second. Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are my two favourite heroines in literature, Edward Ferrars is my favourite Jane Austen hero, and I just love the story so much! The 1995 film is my favourite Jane Austen adaptation and one of my very favourite movies ever.

#4 What is your favourite BBC miniseries?

Is this really a fair question? :) Haha. Well, I've seen so many and  loved them so much that it's really quite difficult to pick an absolute favourite, so I will simply name some of my favourites.

  Emma 2009

Actually, if I had to pick a favourite- which I don't-  it would probably be this. :)

Wives and Daughters 1999

Cranford 2007 and Return to Cranford 2009 (I sort of just count them as one.)

Daniel Deronda 2002

Bleak House 2005

North and South 2005

#5 If you were having a dinner party and you could invite whoever you wanted, fictional or not, who would you invite?

Aha! Well, let's see.....Sir Percival Blakeney, of course, because he would undoubtedly make us all laugh and keep the conversation up nicely; Horatio, Archie, Mr. Bush and Captain Pellew, because....well, just because! Miss Matty and Miss Deborah Jenkyns, Miss Pole and Mary Smith, because they're all just such good fun; Sully and Dr. Mike, because she would make sure we all learned something; Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert (just think how Marilla would get along with Miss Pole!), Anne Shirley, the Dashwood sisters, all of the Waltons, Mr. Woodhouse and Emma, John and Luke Geyser, because Luke would make everything so hilarious, Malachy and Jake Hale Jr. and Mattie Ross. Oh, and Lady Violet Grantham. My, that's quite a list! It is very possible that I just spouted off every literary character that came into my head :)......but really, I think having all these people to dinner would be simply capitol, don't you? Just think of the conversation!

#6 Who is your favourite fictional couple?

Dear me. Alright. Well, we all know how much I love Elinor and Edward...I don't know if I'd say they're my favourite, but definitely one of them. I really love all Lynn Austin's couples too, especially Eliza Wyatt and Gabe Harper from Hidden Places and Julia Hoffman and James McGrath from Fire by Night. Also, Mr. Knightley and Emma are so sweet.....so I suppose I'd have to say I really don't have a favourite. Sorry! My favourite historical couple is definitely William Wilberforce and Barbra Spooner, and likewise they are probably my favourite film couple, but I really couldn't say a favourite fictional couple.

#7 Which fictional family would you most like to be a part of?

Hehe. Probably the Waltons! Actually, I've always loved the Merrimans from the American Girl Felicity stories, which is also one of my favourite movies, because they're so close and they truly seem like a real family. I also love the Dashwoods, as we all know, and I would love to have Elinor and Marianne and Margaret as sisters!

#8 Who is your favourite villain?

Haha. Actually, I have quite a lot of favourite villains, because, as well you know, the villains are often the funniest. Mr. Smallweed of Bleak House is a great favourite- he's one of those villains whom you actually want so see more rather than less of, because he's just so ridiculously hilarious, unlike people like Riguad and Thomas Barrow, whom you just wish would die. Also Ralph Nickleby is a pretty solid villain, a really evil, hard, unmovable scoundrel with no sympathy for others, similar to Mr. Tulkinghorn. Paul Chauvelin is another really nasty one. I think my favourite is probably either Mr. Smallweed or Ralph Nickleby. Oh, and I totally forgot about Miss Havisham! She's definitely way up there too, mostly just because she's just so creepy. (What is it with Charles Dickens and these incredible villains?)

#9 What is your favourite musical?

I love musicals! My favourites are those good old ones from the 40s and 50s but I also really like some of the newer (when I say "newer" I mean 80s and 90s) Broadway ones too. My favourite is Hello, Dolly! and some of my other favourites are Meet Me in St. Louis, Fiddler on the Roof, and the Phantom of the Opera.

#10 If you were an actress and could play any character you wanted, who would it be?

Such a difficult question! "Is this fair, Sadie? Is it just?" Haha, I'm just kidding.:) Well, I think I'd really love to play Beatrix Potter, and Barbra Spooner, and Marianne Dashwood, and Jane Eyre, but those characters have already been played to such perfection. So I suppose I would pick Alice Grace Ripley from Wonderland Creek, or Julia Hoffman from Fire by Night, since those books haven't been made into movies. Yet, that is. I  have very strong opinions concerning making Lynn Austin's books into movies, because Hallmark tried it with Hidden Places and it didn't do it justice (not that I've actually seen it....somehow I just know), but on the other hand it would be very nice if someone could somehow pull it off and do justice to the novel, because with the right director and actors it just might be possible. Just NOT Michael Landon Jr., thank you very much. He'd have Julia wearing her hair down while she tended the wounded soldiers and would probably have Dr. McGrath played by some hairy fifty-year-old with no talent whatsoever for acting, let alone worthy of playing James McGrath. But then, I really shouldn't judge. : )

#11 If you could have any period drama heroine for your best friend, who would it be?

Most likely either Marianne Dashwood or Anne Shirley, because they're both so much like me! Also, Beatrix Potter and I have a great deal in common, but it would definitely be one of those three.

Marianne Dashwood

Anne Shirley

Beatrix Potter

Thank you, dear Sadie, for such delightful questions!
