Monday Movie Quote

Posted on 13:23 by retino
I love quoting books and movies in my everyday speech! My younger sister Sadie Ann and I especially enjoy quoting back and forth to one another, sometimes even to the point where it may get a bit exhausting. Once, our elder sister Molly became so frustrated with our incessant pre-arranged speech, she commissioned us to go for one hour without quoting anything. It was absolutely hilarious because during that time, we did without even realizing it! If I remember correctly, Sadie quoted Grandma Walton at least once and I quoted Prince Caspian by saying that we had "five more minutes" until the hour was out.  :)
Over the years I have established some fictional characters as being my "favourites to quote" --they include Mr. Woodhouse, Grandma and Grandpa Walton (hehe), Squire Hamley, the Dashwood sisters, Anne Shirley, and of course, Sir Percival Blakeney. (*Applause*-- no, no, that's just his name!)  I often like to quote villains too, such as Mr. Smallweed in Bleak House (sometimes when I come home from ballet practice, I require a bit of "shaking up." Also, I've been known to call poor dear Oliver a "brimstone beast." That is, only when he's really deserved it.) I say, if you're going to be cruel, you may as well do it with style!

I've decided to post a movie or book quote each Monday. Today I have chosen one of my favourites from The Young Victoria, when she and Albert are playing chess.

Princess Victoria: "Do you ever feel like a chess piece yourself, being played in a game against your will?"

Prince Albert:" Do you?"

Victoria: "Constantly. I see them leaning in and moving me around the board."

Albert: "The Duchess and Sir John?"

Victoria: "Not just them. Uncle Leopold. The King. I'm sure half the politicians are ready to seize hold of my skirts and drag me from square to square."

Albert: "Then you had better master the rules of the game until you play it better than they can."

Victoria: "You don't recommend a husband to play it for me?"

Albert: "I should find one to play it with you, not for you."

You must excuse me while I drift away into a swoon! Needless to say, I LOVE this film, and this is one of my very favourite scenes. I hope you've enjoyed it!

         Very Truly,

                         Emma Jane

P.S. Did I mention that the music to this movie is absolutely gorgeous as well? I've decided to embed a video of one of the tracks called Victoria and Albert. Hope you enjoy!
